Traversal explores crossing between physical and digital spaces in a surveilled world online and offline. I recorded censored videos of myself while I walked through streets in London, the most surveilled city in Europe. At the same time, I tracked my realtime GPS location on my phone and later, re-explored the digital recreation of these locations on Apple Maps and Google Street View. The project explores the obsessive impulse of mapping, tracking, and data gathering by companies, governments, and ultimately ourselves. As we take steps in either the digital or the physical, we leave similar footprints and traces in the other, simultaneously traversing the two realms seamlessly that are then tracked and saved.
