Reflections is a video artwork that reimagines cinematic narrative as a slowly unfurling process without beginning and end. In his book 'Shanzhai', The philosopher Byung-Chul Han writes, "with its unrelenting metamorphoses, process also dominates the Chinese awareness of time and history. For example, transformation takes place not as a series of events or eruptions, but discreetly, imperceptibly, and continually". Inspired also by the ethos of 'slow cinema', the artwork pushes back on the idea of narrative as a spectacle and asks us to reconsider who or what we could consider "main character" in the larger environment we all inhabit. Ocean and sky take the forefront roles as the piece reverses in and out, up and down, in a cycle of repeats and reincarnations.
